Morse Code Widget

Choose the language, copy the snippet, paste it into your page. That is the whole setup.

Paste this into your page

The widget is a small translator you can embed anywhere: a school page, a scouting site, a blog post about the Titanic. It works out of the box, needs no account and no key, and carries a single quiet link back here as its only condition.

Why an iframe and not a script

Most embeddable tools ask you to paste a script tag. That gives the tool full access to your page: it can read your content, your forms and anything else in the document. You are trusting a third party with your visitors, and you cannot check what the script does after you have pasted it.

An iframe cannot do any of that. It runs in its own origin, cannot read the surrounding page, and cannot be changed from here into something else without you seeing a different document. It is the safer choice for you, so it is what we offer.

The cost is that the widget cannot resize itself to fit your layout, which is why there is a height setting above.

What it weighs and what it does not do

About 21 kB in total, including the code tables. It deliberately does not load the framework the rest of this site uses - that would be 270 kB on your page for two text fields and three buttons.

  • No cookies, no analytics, no fingerprinting. Nothing is set on your visitors' devices.
  • Nothing is transmitted. What someone types stays in their browser, exactly as on this site.
  • No account or key. The link works because it works, not because you registered.
  • It follows your visitor's color scheme unless you pick one, so it does not glare in a dark layout.

Terms, briefly

Use it on as many pages as you like, commercial or not. Two things only:

  • Leave the link in. The small morse-code.info line at the bottom is what the widget costs.
  • Do not present it as your own. Embedding is fine; copying the code onto your own server and stripping the attribution is not.

If you want the translator without the frame - inside your own interface, on a device with no browser, in a script - the JavaScript library gives you the same engine to build with.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is the widget free?

Yes, on any number of pages, including commercial ones. The only condition is that the small link at the bottom of the widget stays visible.

  • Does it set cookies or track visitors?

No. It sets nothing on the device, loads nothing from third parties, and transmits nothing that is typed into it. You do not need to mention it in a cookie banner.

  • Can I change the size or colors?

The height is set in the snippet above and the width follows your container. The color scheme can follow your visitor's system setting or be fixed to light or dark. Beyond that the styling is fixed, which is what keeps it small.

  • Why does it not resize itself?

Because an iframe cannot measure itself from outside without the page and the frame talking to each other, and that would mean loading a script onto your page. Fixing the height is the price of not doing that.

  • Can I self-host it?

Not as the widget, but the engine behind it is published as a JavaScript library you can host yourself and build your own interface around.
