Check a Morse code tattoo

One dot too many and an A becomes an R. That is the mistake you cannot correct afterwards.

⚠️ This check is an indication, not a clearance. A tattoo is permanent: compare the code by hand as well, character by character, before anyone picks up a needle.

The image does not leave your device. It is drawn in the browser and read there; nothing is uploaded. With a photo of a tattoo that is not a formality but the reason you would drag it in here at all.

    How it is checked

What is compared is the element sequence, not the text. The question with a tattoo is not whether it says a different word - that would be noticed - but whether there is one dot too many or one dash too few in it. That is exactly what you do not see, and exactly what this tool checks.

It shows, character by character, what should be there and what was read, naming each difference as "different character", "missing" or "extra".

    What this check is not

It is not a licence. The image recognition looks for the row with the strongest alternating pattern and reads it like a signal; under raking light, on curved skin, or with code set in a circle it gets it wrong. A confidence of a hundred per cent only means the lengths were even - not that the right row was read.

A tattoo is permanent. Compare by hand as well, character by character, against the chart - and have someone read it back who does not know the intended text.

    The three most common mistakes

    • The missing character gap. Dots and dashes strung together evenly do not spell the word but an ambiguous sequence. Three units belong between characters, one within - the difference must be visible.
    • The short dash. A dash is three times a dot. Let it become two dot lengths and every decoder, and some humans, will read it as something else.
    • The mirrored design. Inked on the inside of a wrist, read in a mirror, flipped in the photo - Morse code is not symmetrical, and backwards it spells a different word.

    Nothing is uploaded

The image is drawn in the browser and read there. It goes to no server and is stored nowhere.

With a photograph of your own skin that is not a formality but the reason you would drag it in here at all.

    Frequently asked questions

    • Can I rely on it?

No, and that is meant seriously. The tool reads one row of pixels and checks lengths; it knows neither the design nor the intent. Take the result as a second look, not as a clearance.

    • I have no photo, only a draft.

Then type the Morse from the draft into the validator. It tells you whether the sequence yields valid characters at all and where it is ambiguous - before the image even comes into it.

    • What if the confidence is low?

Then the segmentation is off and the reading is a guess. Try another row, another threshold or a better picture - straight, evenly lit, with a little margin.

    • My tattoo is already done.

Then the tool tells you what it actually says. That is worth something too: knowing lets you deal with it - and in many cases a missing element can be added later, a surplus one cannot.
