CW world map

Every callsign carries its origin. This page reads it out and shows where you have been.

Loads about 800 kB and fetches map tiles from karten.wpsys.de - our own server, not a third-party map service.

Worked All Continents

Working all six continents is the oldest collecting task in amateur radio. It stands here not as a badge but as an overview: which parts of the world came up in your practice, and which are still missing.

The mapping comes from the callsign prefix - DL is Germany, VK Australia, LU Argentina. That is not this site’s invention but the allocation of the International Telecommunication Union.

Why the map only loads on request

The rest of this site runs without a single request to a foreign server. The map cannot: map data weighs more than can be shipped along.

So it loads only when you want it. The tiles come from karten.wpsys.de, an own server and not a third-party map service. The library for it sits here in the project and is not loaded from there - foreign code running on this page could see everything; map data cannot.

Frequently asked questions

  • How does the page know where a station is?
From the callsign prefix. The first one to three characters are allocated to a country, following the ITU Radio Regulations, Appendix 42. The coordinates are approximate country centres, not locations.
  • Why is my map empty?
Because no station is in your log yet. It builds up as you use the simulations. This page does not show invented stations.
  • Is my data transmitted?
Your callsigns are not - they stay in your browser. When the map loads, the map server sees your IP address, as any server does from which something is loaded. Without clicking the button, not even that happens.
